Wood Duck on Otters Pond
Otters Pond Bed & Breakfast
Orcas Island, Washington

O Lord, what a variety of things you have made!
In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your creatures.

Psalm 104:24 NLT

Whenever we can get away for a few days, one of our favorite escapes is to the San Juan Islands in Washington. We have spent at least a weekend each on San Juan, Orcas, and Lopez Islands and they are all wonderful places to visit with lots to see and do.

We have a special spot in our hearts, however, for Orcas Island, where we fell in love with Otters Pond Bed & Breakfast in Eastsound in the spring of 2005. Innkeepers, Carl and Sue Silvernail, with the help of their little Pomeranian, Bubby, made us feel so welcome and at home. We just felt like we were meant to be there by the pond in the forest... watching the birds. We have been drawn back several times to that same B&B on the pond. Bubby has moved on to puppy heaven now but has left the inn in the capable paws of Chuli.

We have really enjoyed Carl's photography. With his permission, I based this drawing on his photo of a wood duck on the pond. This was my first attempt at drawing something completely surrounded by water and reflections. Wood ducks have such vibrant colors; I enjoyed trying to capture them as accurately as possible.

Lavender Joy and Lime Kiln Lighthouse have both come from trips to Otters Pond and the San Juan Islands.
