He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.
Psalm 23:2 NLT
I think the Stayton-Jordan Bridge has about the prettiest setting of any of the Oregon covered bridges. Originally called the Jordan Bridge, it crossed Thomas Creek in Linn County just east of Scio. When the new concrete bridge was built to replace it, the covered bridge was moved to Stayton in Marion County where it was reassembled across the Salem Power Canal in Pioneer Park. After a tragic fire in December 1994, the bridge was rebuilt and renamed.
To get this view, I walked across the bridge from the parking lot and photographed it from another foot bridge several yards away. The second time we went to visit, I had hoped to take a few more detail photos, but they were decorating it for one of the many weddings that take place there. That was a bit disappointing, but we were happy for the bride & groom and happy that Scott's parents, Dave & Sharon, were able to at least see it from the parking lot.
If you are interested in covered bridges, be sure to check out another interesting bit of history and more photos of this bridge here.
The Covered Bridge Society of Oregon recognizes 51 bridges. You can read more about each of them by going to their website.
