Ol' Blue
Second Place Winner, CRAA 2009 National Juried Art Exhibit

He gives power to those who are tired and worn out;
He offers strength to the weak.

Isaiah 40:29 NLT

While searching out covered bridges in the area north of Eugene, Oregon, we came upon an old dump truck. I had to take its picture; I knew it would look good in front of an old building. Then, on another bridge search, I found an interesting old barn in the Corvallis area. It had a perfect place to park my truck!

Both pictures sat in my computer for some time while I worked on the bridges I had been searching for. (You can see those in the Bridges Gallery.) Finally the time was right to begin my work on putting the truck and barn together ...and I am pleased with the result.

The challenge in this drawing was getting the rust and blue paint to look right. I had to draw a new truck first. Then I had to rust it. After I had the rust right, I added the blue. Not quite the natural order.

I really enjoyed working on this project. It reminded me of my car-drawing days when I was a kid.
