Lime Kiln Lighthouse
San Juan Island, Washington

The Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.
Isaiah 60:19b NRSV

When I finished the last of the nine Oregon lighthouses, my "staff" decided that since I had already drawn the two lighthouses in Crescent City, California, I was just one light short of a calendar. I had no choice but to cross the Columbia and draw a Washington lighthouse! I already had photos of several in my files, but the one we have visited the most is the Lime Kiln Lighthouse on San Juan Island. Having seen it so often, it would be the easiest to do quickly so that Tami could create the calendar in time for the new year.

Tami had taken some great photographs when she and Kathy made a trip to the Islands in July. (Be sure to check out her work on the Acrewood Photography site.)

I liked the way Tami framed the lighthouse with the trees. Combining that with her shot of the orcas was just what I wanted. I decided to honor her efforts and use her pictures instead of those in my archives.

Besides... when I drew Alissa's Beach I used Debbi's photography. It was only fair!
