Larwood Bridge, from original pen & ink by Wayne Bricco, Acrewood Art

Larwood Bridge
Linn County, Oregon

O Lord, you alone are my hope. I've trusted you, O Lord, from childhood.
Psalm 71:5 NLT

I think of this as a picture of the last few days of summer before school starts. It was a fun drawing to work on. I drew most of it at the Oregon Covered Bridge Festival in Albany, Oregon, and at the Corvallis Fall Festival in Corvallis, Oregon - two great festivals in two weeks.

It was fun to talk with people from the area who knew Larwood Bridge. I especially had fun talking with the kids. I hadn't decided what color to make the swim trunks of the boys in the picture, so I asked the first 3 boys who showed an interest in my drawing what color theirs were, thereby putting those guys into the picture.

I wanted to draw one of the bridges with open sides, so I chose to draw the Larwood Bridge. I liked the setting with the swimming hole for this late summer/early fall picture for our Oregon Covered Bridges calendar.

The Covered Bridge Society of Oregon recognizes 51 bridges. You can read more about each of them by going to their website.
