A Sunflower for Deb-Bee

My child, eat honey, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to the taste.
Proverbs 24:13 NLT

I took the photograph I used for this drawing about five years ago. I liked the photo so much I put it on the screen of my cellphone and always wanted to draw it. I liked the way the flower wasn't completely open... but the bee didn't care. I also liked the bee's shadow.

Finally, one day, a "Call to Artists" came from Giustina Gallery. The theme of the show was "Pre-Farm to Table: A Bee's Work." I knew right then the time had come to draw my sunflower. I thought, at first, my challenge would be the spiral in the center. But, no! It was actually the time it took to draw over 2000 seeds! My diligence paid off and my picture was juried into the show and it sold.

We lost our younger daughter, Debbi, to cancer in 2016. She loved sunflowers; we called her our Sunflower Girl. This picture was drawn and named in memory of her.
